The public health emergency declaration for COVID-19 has been in effect for 30 months, 27 days and counting. It is set to expire on Oct. 13 unless it is extended again by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). HHS said it would give 60 days advance notice if it planned not to extend the emergency, a deadline that has passed with no warning issued. Given that no advance notice has been given, it appears that the Covid state of emergency will be extended yet again.

The CDC effectively declared the end to any Covid emergency with their recent changes to Covid guidance. New COVID-19 guidance from the CDC focuses on individual decisions as summarized by NPR:
• Those exposed to the virus are no longer required to quarantine.
• Unvaccinated people now have the same guidance as vaccinated people.
• Students can stay in class after being exposed to the virus.
• It's no longer recommended to screen those without symptoms.

The new CDC guidelines effectively indicate there is NO emergency
• Exposed? No need to even quarantine.
• Vaccinated or unvaccinated? Same guidance.
• Students exposed? They can stay in class.
• No symptoms? No problem.

It is past time for the national state of emergency to end.

Already, as of August 22nd, roughly 2/3 of the states have ended their state-level declarations of emergency. Want to check your state? https://www.nashp.org/governors-prioritize-health-for-all/
